FAQ
- What does the BEP consist of specifically?
- The BEP is a significant undertaking that will result in several improvements. These include the creation of a dedicated Children’s Wing for classes, the installation of an elevator for handicapped access, the addition of more classrooms and restrooms, and more. For a more comprehensive understanding, please refer to the building enhancement section of the presentation.
- Why should we do the enhancement now?
- We are outgrowing the space God gave us 20 years ago. As God leads us, we want to make the necessary enhancements for the next growth phase. Over time, we have become a spiritual home for people of all ages. We need to overhaul our facilities to meet the ministry needs of children, youth, and the older generations the Lord has blessed us with. It is the right time because we have become increasingly aware of the needs and to ignore them would perhaps exclude some of these precious people from continuing to worship among us. The BEP is part of a five-year plan that would enable us to become a more cohesive church to care for the growing needs of the church. We trust that if this plan is in alignment with God’s plan for our church, He will provide the necessary funding.
- Will the church consider getting bank loans to cover at least part of the cost?
Our approach to funding the BEP is strategic. First, we are inviting past and present church members to participate. The church leadership is open to the possibility of securing short-term construction loans, if necessary, but this is not our primary funding strategy.
- Will the funds pledged for the BEP cover the cost of planting a church in South Hill? If not, how can we still support the church plant if the fundraising is only for the PCCO building?
- Though BEP fundraising is not for the South Hills church plant, we are committed to meeting their needs. Sufficient funds have been set aside in the General Fund to provide for the church plant’s needs, so fundraising for the BEP should not affect the funds needed for the church plant. What matters most for church planting is sending the right people and supporting them in this important ministry. We are going to pray regularly for the church plant, equip leaders, and send a group of key coworkers, in addition to providing financially for Pastor Lake and church planting ministry expense during the early years of the planting process.
- What happens if we don’t raise enough money before the start of construction?
- Depending on the amount raised by the scheduled start date (currently November 2025), we may obtain a short-term construction loan to cover the shortage or postpone the start date.
- Why don’t we buy a bigger building in the suburbs with the $3.3M?
- Our church’s vision is a commitment. In 1995, God gave the church leaders the vision to plant a church in the Oakland area to share the gospel with the students. This vision and commitment remain today. Located in the heart of Oakland, PCCO is easily accessible to students on the nearby university campuses and provides great opportunities to care for their spiritual and physical needs. It is also a central location for families who live in the suburbs to the north and south of Pittsburgh.
- How many additional rooms will we gain after the BEP?
- We will gain two additional classrooms, three restrooms, and five offices. The extra classrooms will allow the first-floor classrooms to be dedicated to the children’s classes. The additional offices will enable the church staff to work closely in the same area. Besides gaining additional square footage in the parsonage rebuild, the space in the rest of the church will be much better utilized after the renovation. So, in the end, we will gain more usable space than what the parsonage will give us. The planned additions include the creation of a dedicated Children’s Wing for classes, the installation of an elevator for handicapped access, the addition of more classrooms and restrooms, and more. There will also be changes to allow better traffic flow to ease congestion during the busiest times at the church. These changes are necessary as we grow to become a cohesive church that cares for the needs of the younger and older generations. For a more comprehensive understanding, please refer to the building enhancement section of the presentation.
- Where will the church meet while the church is undergoing construction?
- We are actively seeking alternative meeting locations to find a suitable place that meets our needs and is easily accessible to everyone.
- Will the entire interior of the church be renovated, including new flooring, furniture, and paint in all spaces?
- The newly renovated areas will have new flooring and newly painted walls. Other areas will be selectively updated as needed. Furniture will be added or updated based on the ministry’s needs.
